Terms of Service

Effective date: August 8, 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of trytanel.com and the Tanel app (together, the "Service"), operated by Tanel ("Tanel", "we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

1. Eligibility and accounts

You must be able to form a binding contract to use the Service, and you must use it for legitimate professional networking and referral purposes. You can sign in with a magic-link email, Google, or LinkedIn; each resolves to a single Tanel account when they share a verified email. You're responsible for keeping your account credentials and any device you use to access the Service secure, and for all activity under your account.

2. The Service

Tanel lets you maintain a professional identity, build Connections with people you interact with, publish shareable Candidate Profiles, and refer candidates through a trackable, chain-aware Referral Inbox. Some pages — public Candidate Profiles (/c/:slug) and referral links (/r/:token) — are viewable without an account by design, so links you share work for people who've never used Tanel. We may add, change, or remove features at any time.

3. Your content

You retain ownership of the information and files you submit to the Service — your Professional Profile, Candidate Profiles, resumes, referral messages and notes, and anything else you upload ("Your Content"). By submitting Your Content, you grant Tanel a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, and display it solely as needed to operate and provide the Service, including rendering public Candidate Profile and referral pages you choose to make public or share.

You're responsible for Your Content and confirm you have the right to share it, including any resumes or details about candidates you refer. Don't submit anything you don't have the right to share, or anything that infringes someone else's rights.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Impersonate any person or misrepresent your affiliation with a person or company.
  • Post false, misleading, or fraudulent Candidate Profiles or referrals.
  • Use the Service to spam, harass, or send unsolicited communications, including bulk-forwarding referrals to people who haven't asked for them.
  • Scrape, crawl, or systematically extract data from the Service outside what a public page's own links and Open Graph metadata are designed for.
  • Attempt to circumvent rate limits, security controls, or access controls (including on the "Introduce" flow, which is rate-limited to prevent spam-forwarding).
  • Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the Service, except where the law expressly permits it.
  • Upload malicious code or attempt to disrupt or overburden the Service's infrastructure.
  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.

We may investigate and take appropriate action, including removing content or suspending accounts, for violations of this section.

5. Referrals are not guarantees

Tanel is infrastructure for referrals — it helps people share candidates and track what happens next. Tanel is not a recruiting agency, doesn't employ or place candidates, and doesn't guarantee that any referral results in a view, an interview, an offer, or a hire. Outcomes depend entirely on the people in the chain — the candidate, the referrer, and everyone the referral is passed to. We're not a party to, and aren't responsible for, any employment relationship, offer, or decision that results from a referral made through the Service.

6. Public links and sharing

When you set a Candidate Profile to public or generate a referral share link, you're choosing to make the information on that page accessible to anyone who has the link, without requiring them to have an account. You're responsible for deciding what to include on a public profile and who you share links with. Owner notes and reminders you mark private stay private to you and are never included on a public page.

7. Third-party services

Signing in with Google or LinkedIn, or clicking links to other sites from the Service, is subject to that third party's own terms and privacy policy. We aren't responsible for third-party services and don't endorse them.

8. Intellectual property

The Service itself — including its design, features, branding, and underlying software — is owned by Tanel and protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms don't grant you any right to use Tanel's name, logo, or branding without our prior written permission.

9. Suspension and termination

You can stop using the Service and request account deletion at any time by contacting us. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, create risk or legal exposure for us, or if we discontinue the Service, with notice where reasonably practicable. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including ownership, disclaimers, and limitation of liability) will survive.

10. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, or statutory, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or completely secure, or that any candidate profile, referral, or piece of content submitted by a user is accurate.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Tanel and its team won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or employment opportunities, arising from your use of the Service — including any referral, introduction, or hiring outcome (or lack of one) — even if we've been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability for any claim arising from the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or a nominal amount, to the extent permitted by law.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold Tanel harmless from any claims, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from Your Content, your violation of these Terms, or your misuse of the Service.

13. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Continued use of the Service after a change means you accept the updated Terms.

14. Governing law

These Terms are governed by applicable law, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where local law requires otherwise. Any dispute not resolved informally will be handled in a competent court, subject to any mandatory local consumer-protection rights you may have.
